Pay Attention: Watch Out For How Item Upgrade Is Taking Over And What You Can Do About It
Guild Wars 2 Item Upgrade
Item upgrade, commonly known as "upping," improves an item's stats. Each upgrade increment results in an increase in linearity of a given stat.
Players can recycle up to six items at a time to gain an indicator of the level of the upgraded components. The cost of recycling items increases with their rarity and item level.
Upgrade components
In Guild Wars 2, an item upgrade is a way to increase the stats of your weapons and armor. This can be accomplished by a variety of methods through the use of upgrade components or increasing an item's rarity or mark level. Additionally to this, many items can be reforged, which can boost their stats even more.
Upgradeable items can be found all over the game, both around the world and as rewards for missions. Players can also craft them. The main way to upgrade gear is through the use of upgrade components which are items that can be slotted into equipment. The majority of equipment comes with slots to upgrade and some require a certain amount of upgrade. Certain upgrade components offer specific bonuses, while other components offer general bonuses.
There are a variety of upgrade components available in the game. These include universal upgrades, inscriptions and jewels. Universal upgrades, like gemstones and enchantments, can be placed in any equipment type and offer fewer bonuses than those that are type specific. Glyphs can only be found in gathering tools. They offer a variety of bonuses, ranging from increasing the speed at which an item gathers to providing additional crafting materials.
Select the item in your inventory, and then open the Upgrade window. The preview will be displayed on the right side of the screen. It will show the expected stats following the upgrade. The Upgrade button at the bottom will be labeled as blocked if you don't have enough of either.
The upper-right corner shows the amount of upgrade components required for an item. The cost of an upgrade increases depending on the upgrade level and rarity, but can be reduced using many different ways, such as purchasing upgrades at a merchant or trading them with other players.
The majority of weapons can be upgraded by a prefix such as a rune or an insignia, and others can be enhanced with the suffix. These upgrades change the name of the item, adding an adjective, for example "Radiant" or "Minor vigor.' The exceptions are the noninscribable wands, shields and foci from the Prophecies and Factions campaigns, that cannot be upgraded using any mods in any way.
Glyphs
Glyphs can be used to convey visual information. They are animated to grab the attention of the viewer and stimulate curiosity in the brain. The glyphs' animation mimics the body language, making them more effective in transmitting the message of a language barrier. Glyphs also create a sense of familiarity in the brain, thereby increasing retention of the message.
Each glyph has a set of values that it can increase a stat's value according to the item when you open the glyph in the Glyph Storage or when you use them to enchant an Artifact. This is the maximum value that a glyph can improve a stat by and not the amount it will actually increase the stat by. The value of the glyph depends on the tier as well as the quality of the item you are enchanting.
The majority of upgrade components that are slotted into items cannot be replaced or salvaged without dismantling the equipment in question, unless it is legendary equipment and upgrades. If you have a rune or glyph you don't want to use, but it's not been applied to the gear yet, you can move the item to another piece by using the Upgrade Glyphs menu on the Glyphs Panel. This will create the new Glyph Set with the selected glyph.
You can remove a glyph by using the Black Lion Salvage Kit, or an Ascended Salvage tool. The item on which the glyph is placed will be destroyed, however the upgraded item can be retrieved using the glyph shards.
Adding a glyph to an item could cause it to be unstable, and the shards of that glyph will disappear from your inventory when you dismantle the item. You can also place a glyph on your equipment to make it more valuable. Deferred Damage, for example can be used to store damage and then be dealt slowly to the wearer rather than all at one time. This is helpful for players who suffer many hits from enemies but don't want to be overwhelmed.
Reroll tokens
Reroll tokens let players change the affixes of their weapons and equipment and they can be obtained through a variety of methods like mistery boxes, as an uncommon drop from skulled creatures, or from killing bosses. Reroll tokens give the player a brand new random affix that is usually better than the original one. Reroll tokens are also a good option to reroll stats on weapons, which can be upgraded to provide better damage or perks.
Rerolled items do not appear in the menu of item upgrades, but they can be upgraded. These rerolled items can be recycled by pressing the "upgrade" button, which changes the layout of the item window and allows up to six items to be chosen to recycle. The gauge of level is increased by recycling an item. The amount is determined by the item's rarity and its level, therefore higher-level items are more useful to recycle than lower-level ones.
In addition to tokens for rerolls players can also make use of Star Remnants and Reroll Tokens to roll the traits of a weapon in an upgraded unit. Rerolls roll the % chance of a particular weapon trait. If it rolls higher, the weapon is upgraded, and if it is lower, the weapon remains unchanged. Weapons can be repeated up to three times.
upgrade item are a good option for upgrading an item, but players should be aware that it can lower the overall ilvl of the weapon by the number of rerolls used to increase it to the final level. This effect is most noticeable on Rings and Diadems because they are the only options to increase the ilvl.
The reroll system has been criticized by players for being too expensive, and it would be more reasonable to let players pay for it using money or a food item that allows them to change their builds without a lot of time and effort. However the paid rerolls aren't something the developers are planning to incorporate at this point in the game's development. Instead, they're planning to include an option to change the race in the near future.
Leveling
There are a variety of ways to upgrade an item. The first method of leveling up an upgrade for an item is by increasing the upgrade amount. This increases the value of upgrading a stat. The second option is to boost the effect of an upgrade, which increases the healing or damage for a stat. Additionally you have the option to upgrade the base item to a more powerful upgrade type. The new item will retain its iLevel but be upgraded to reflect the effects of the upgraded item.
It is important to keep in mind that upgrades are random. In the majority of cases the chance of a better roll will be derived from glyphs, however there are also chances for more or unique rolls. The item type will also determine the iLevel. If you upgrade a rare or unique item to a special item type, then it has a chance of receiving a higher level.
Upgrades to items can be costly especially when you're upgrading an item of gear from the normal to the legendary track. The cost of upgrading a piece of equipment will depend on its base iLevel and the amount of upgrade levels. Certain upgrade tracks require crests in order to get to the next level.
If you're fortunate, your upgraded item may attain the highest level on its upgrade track, and thus unlock an additional benefit. This will give you a substantial increase in the value of the item. The bonus effect can change with each upgrade level however. In general the effect of upgrading is increased by a value of +3.
The iLevel can also change in accordance with the item's upgrade path and its base level. For instance an item that has been upgraded from a rare or exclusive item to an extraordinary item is likely to get the Enhanced Defense of the new base item type.
